MOT TEST FEES
Kidlington MOT Centre provides Class 4 and Class 7 MOT testing for cars, vans and qualifying light commercial vehicles.
Our MOT test fees are £54.85 for Class 4 vehicles and £58.60 for Class 7 vehicles. MOT test fees are VAT free and there are no additional charges for booking through our website.
CLASS 4 MOT TESTING
Class 4 covers most cars and many other everyday vehicles. Our Class 4 MOT test fee is £54.85.

CLASS 7 MOT TESTING
Class 7 covers larger goods vehicles and includes many commercial vans used by trades and businesses. Our Class 7 MOT test fee is £58.60.
- Petrol goods vehicles over 3,000kg and up to 3,500kg design gross weight
- Diesel goods vehicles over 3,000kg and up to 3,500kg design gross weight
- Hybrid goods vehicles over 3,000kg and up to 3,500kg design gross weight
- Qualifying zero-emission goods vehicles over 3,500kg and up to 4,250kg

WHEN IS THE FIRST MOT REQUIRED?
Most cars and Class 4 vehicles require their first MOT when they are three years old, followed by an MOT every year thereafter.
Some vehicle types have different first-test requirements. For example, taxis and ambulances can require their first MOT after one year.

FREE MOT RETESTS
Kidlington MOT Centre offers free MOT retests where applicable, subject to the statutory MOT retest rules.
If your vehicle remains at the test centre for repairs and is retested within 10 working days, only a partial retest is required and there is no retest fee.
If you take the vehicle away, a free partial retest may still apply if it is returned to the same test station by the end of the next working day and the failed items fall within the categories allowed by the DVSA.
If the vehicle is taken away for repair and returned within 10 working days, a partial retest may apply. Different charging rules can apply depending on the circumstances.
IF YOUR VEHICLE FAILS
An MOT failure certificate will identify any defects found during the test. Defects can be categorised as dangerous, major or minor, with advisory items also recorded where appropriate.
JS Motors Oxford can carry out most MOT-related repairs at the same Kidlington workshop. We will explain the work required and will not carry out repairs without your agreement.
You may also choose to have repairs carried out elsewhere. The retest rules and any applicable retest fee will depend on when the vehicle is returned and which items failed.

Is VAT added to the MOT test fee?
No. MOT test fees are VAT free, so the advertised Class 4 and Class 7 prices are the prices you pay for the MOT test.
Do I have to pay again if my vehicle fails?
Not necessarily. A free or partial retest may apply depending on whether the vehicle stays with us for repairs, which items failed and how quickly the vehicle is returned.
Can you repair my vehicle if it fails?
Yes. JS Motors Oxford can carry out most MOT-related repairs at the same workshop. We will explain the defects and any proposed costs before work is carried out.
Can I take my vehicle elsewhere for repairs?
Yes. You can arrange repairs elsewhere, but different MOT retest rules and charges may apply when the vehicle is brought back.
What if I disagree with the MOT result?
You can appeal an MOT result to the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency. If you are appealing against a failure, you should discuss the result with the test centre first and must not have repairs carried out before the appeal process is completed.
APPEALING AN MOT RESULT
If you believe an MOT result is incorrect, you can appeal to the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA).
For an appeal against an MOT failure, the appeal must normally reach the DVSA within 14 working days of the test. You should not have the vehicle repaired or adjusted before the appeal has been considered, as changes to the vehicle may affect the outcome.
